What to do...

Lately, it seems I've come across a variety of other women who have expressed a desire to connect with other mothers in our area. In the past, I've been a part of different groups, but they've never lasted more than a few months, some never even making it past the first initial meeting. Whenever I bring up the lack of this type of thing for mothers around here, people always just tell me to start one. I've never felt very confident in my ability to organize a group of people, and definitely don't like the idea of the responsibility falling on me if it fails to work out!

But -- I really find myself wishing that I had a support group (locally) and know that there are others who wish the same.

So, any ideas? Is anyone a part of something like this that works well? Have you been in the past? What worked, and what didn't? Any ideas, advice, ANYTHING you could pass on? I don't really know where to start. I am also curious what the likelihood of success is with mothers from all different backgrounds.

Anyway, any info anyone has to share on the subject would be much appreciated! In the meantime, I think I'll see if Google has any helpful advice. : )

The ones I have liked the best have coffee, food, and talk. A wide open place for the kids to play helps, too. I am kind of anti-structure.

I'm in a moms' group I joined through the hospital I delivered Samuel at, and most of us don't have anything in common except for the fact we have kids the same age. It works!

I would try to get something going online or advertise in a newspaper or local coffee shop. See what happens!

Good luck, Kelli. I know how important and supportive a moms' group can be and how much fun it is for the kids.
