Cece's First Birthday

Busy weekend! Grandpa and Grandma Hansen, Great-Grandpa and Grandma Hansen, my parents and sister all came over Saturday for Cece's birthday. As I am learning, nothing goes very as-planned for a one year olds birthday party. Which was okay, actually! I really didn't plan anything. We went out to breakfast Sat. morning, which was way more chaotic than it was worth, but we were showing our house (it's still on the market) and had to leave first thing so it worked. We then did a few errands to kill some time, headed home, put all three kids down for a nap, and then I realized- I HAD NOTHING I NEEDED TO DO. We had cleaned the entire house in anticipation of the showing, my mom was bringing the cupcakes (apparently I went a little nuts on the twins' birthday with my baking hundreds of cupcakes until they were JUST RIGHT) and we had decided on pizza from the Costco food court because the kids love it and it's so much easier than me making it all from scratch. Although I really love making pizza, it was absolutely the best decision I have ever been forced to make in my life! I didn't have to do one single thing. So, I went into my very clean, good smelling bedroom and took a nap. On a Saturday afternoon. Now, to some people, this is probably a common occurrence. Or at the least, not at all a disturbing statement for someone to make. For me, however, it was MONUMENTAL. I cannot even recall the last time I've taken a nap. Not when I was pregnant with Cece, not after she was born, not EVER. I just don't nap. I cannot slow my mind down in the middle of the day, so I really don't even try.

After the wonderful relaxation of the afternoon, my parents arrived with the pizza, we ate, chatted for hours, watched the kids play, ate yummy white cupcakes with pink icing and green sprinkles and gave Cece her presents. She loved them all, and I loved them all because everyone obeyed my demands of DO NOT GO OVERBOARD. It turned out to be a very nice birthday. Other than the fact that it was sub-zero and a blizzard. But hey, I live in Montana-I seem to forget that fact a little too frequently.

Sound like a wonderful time! It is neat you have family around to be there for the special times. I am enjoying being closer to family again.

When we were trying to sell our home in FL that was one "nice" thing after a showings. The clean house!! My kids thought I was naggy though getting on them to pick up every little thing to keep the house "perfect".

sounds perfect.
I bet you guys have a beautiful summer this year.
A Nap!!! Aren't they delicious? I'm so glad you got one.
I can't believe she's one. It seems like I just brought muffins to your house, like I just held her when she was newborn. Unbelievable.

Cheri- It is nice to have family nearby. I love it! It would be very hard for me to live far away from my family.

Becky- I can't believe it either! The time has gone by SO quickly. It's weird for me to have all toddlers, no babies. Some days I miss the baby stage, others I'm very grateful to be past it! I can't believe Sam will soon be 2. I remember meeting you at our Mom's group with tiny little Sam like it was yesterday. Sigh...

Also, I loved those muffins!!!

are you kidding me?? In my book naps are miraculous. I still have to threaten my kids with their lives to get to take a nap.
