Carl had classes for work all weekend, so my parents came and stayed with us to help me out. It was really nice to have them here. It was the first time we've spent any extended amount of time together since we moved into our house. The kids loved it, of course, and so did they. I had to teach Sunday School yesterday (only 10 kids this time!) so they stayed home and watched my snotty nosed kids for me, so as to not contaminate the rest of the church.

For Mother's Day we just grilled, had homemade potato salad, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. We baked a yellow cake for the shortcake, (a very basic one) but then added a lemon curd filling. Topped with strawberries and whipped cream, it was delicious. Lots of relaxing, eating, spending time together. Carl was able to come home a little early, by about 3:00 in the afternoon, so at least we had the evening together. The weekend flew by, though, and I can't believe it's Monday already!

Not much going on this week. At least not yet. It's rainy and crappy out today, which makes me feel so lazy. It's supposed to get nicer as the week progresses, and be like 78 or something by Thursday. Can't wait! I am ready for some nice weather. I still have stuff I want to plant outside, but can't until it's a little warmer.

Something sad: Saturday morning, around 5:00, we awoke to sirens. Lots of them. Firetrucks, ambulances, cops, etc. racing up our road. Then racing back down the road. Later in the day, on a four-wheeler ride, we discovered a neighbor up the road from us had their house burn up. It's so horrible looking-completely charred. Nothing left to salvage, not even their cars! The wind was blowing, and burned up both cars right in the driveway. The family living there was renting, having recently moved here from Australia. They are building a house a little further up the road, but have a while before it's done. So sad! I'm not sure if the had renter's insurance or not... I hope so. At least no one was hurt. I don't know how they managed to escape, it doesn't seem possible from the look of the house. They have young children, too.

Lastly, something exciting - I should be registering for my classes at the college this week or next! I absolutely can't wait. I'm really looking forward to school, as well as being closer to being done with school.

Yippee for classes!
Scary about the fire -- one of my great fears.
That shortcake sounds delicious.
