The one where I share my Homemade Baby Wipe Recipe

For those of you that use baby wipes, I have been meaning to post the recipe I've been using for Homemade Baby Wipes. I have read countless ways to make them over the last three years, but have never attempted it until recently, figuring it would be to difficult or time consuming to be worth it. But, I was very wrong! They are so simple, so easy and so fast! Not to mention very cheap in comparison to regular baby wipes. So, do not be scared by the thought of one more thing to put on your to-do list -- these literally take five minutes to make. So here it is (go try it out, you know you want to)!

1/2 roll of sturdy paper towels (I've been using Viva brand and they are awesome)
1/8 cup baby oil
1/8 - 1/4 cup baby wash of your choice (I use Baby Magic because it smells so darn good)
2 cups hot water

Mix all the liquid ingredients in a bowl, cut the paper towels in half so you have two short rolls, put one into the liquid until absorbed (only a few seconds) and then squeeze out the liquid until they are as moist as you want them. I squeeze out quite a bit, I don't like them too wet.

And that's it! They are so fast and super cheap.

That seems so easy. Luckily we haven't had to buy wipes or diapers yet thanks to my very generous step grandfather, but I'm going to keep this recipe so I can make my own when the time comes.

Yay, Becky! I am so glad you tried it out! I am so sad that I haven't been doing it all along. Oh well!

Sandra -- oh my goodness, that is so awesome to not have had to buy diapers or wipes yet! What a blessing! When you do end up needing them, though, try these out because they're really awesome!

Thanks, Kelli! (We've been using Johnsons since those were what we got as gifts, but I too love Baby Magic! :) )

I'm not trying to sound dumb here, but after you put the paper towels in the liquid, do you put them in a ziploc bag or how do you store them? Sorry to ask a dumb question.

Sarah -

No, that is not dumb! I bought a little Rubbermaid container that is square and just the right size for the wipes. Although, most people just use an old wipe container, which makes perfect sense, I just didn't have one. :) Hope that helps!

Thank you for not thinking it was a dumb question. I was just wondering if you tore them off when you put them in the square container or if you leave them on the roll and tear off as needed or how you handle that part of storing them? Thank you again.

Sarah,

Well, the recipe I originally used said to pull the center out and go from there. I didn't think it worked very well, so I just leave them rolled up and pull from the outside wipe. When I change a diaper, I open the container, pull several off (so that they're ready, since they are a little harder to get apart than regular wipes) and change. Although, come to think of it, I always pulled several wipes out with store bought baby wipes also!

Thank you so much for explaining to me. I have to visualize to do. By the way, what is essential oil and where do you get it? Thanks again.

No problem! Essential oils are the oils from herbs and plants. Lavender, tea tree, ylang ylang, peppermint, eucalyptus, bergamot, carrot seed and cedarwood, among others. There are literally HUNDREDS! They are used for millions of uses, but when using them in cleaning products they are mainly for smell and their anti-bacterial properties.

I buy them at the health food store. I am not sure if other places carry them, but any natural foods store should carry them!

Thank you so much. I would have used those oils I use in my Bath & Body oil warmer. lol I can't wait to try the laundry soap. Thanks again.
